Freshmen The UT freshmen put on quite a performance in their division of the SEC meet. Pat Murphy was a double winner in the hurdles; Butch Stewart won the 880; George Moschis won the javelin; and Les Rager won the discus. Larry Kelly set a school record (48.1) while finishing second in the 440, and the mile relay team of Tommy Fisher, Butch Stewart, Bob Dickson, and Larry Kelly won with another school record of 3:13.0.NCAA Tennessee tied for 32nd place at the 1966 NCAA Championships in Bloomington, Indiana.

Outstanding Performer in SEC Meet Richmond Flowers was a three-time All-American at Tennessee in track & field. As a freshman in 1966 he ran the 60-yard high hurdles in 6.9 seconds, a tenth of a second off the world indoor record. As a sophomore in 1967, he was voted the Most Outstanding Performer at the SEC Track & Field Championships in Knoxville, winning the 120 yard high hurdles and the 100 yard dash and finishing fifth in the long jump.NCAA Tennessee’s scored 24 points and tied New Mexico for 5th place at the 1967 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Provo, Utah. Outstanding Athlete in SEC Meet Gary Wagner was named the Most Outstanding Athlete in the Southeastern Conference Track and Field Outdoor Championships following his victories in the 100, 220, and 440 relayNCAA Tennessee finished 9th at the 1969 NCAA Track & Field Championships, which were held in Knoxville on the University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track.
