Larry Kelly Memorial
Lawrence “Larry’ Byron Kelly, age 75, of Chicago, passed away Thursday evening, March 30, 2023. Born May 18, 1947, to the late George Kelly and the late lda Kelly adored son-in-law of the late Jerome and Gloria Caponigri; loving husband of Karen of almost 29 years; adored father of three and grandfather of five.
Larry took up skiing when he met Karen, and the sport led them to many snowy adventures in the United States, Canada, and Europe. It also led them to the Oak Park Ski Club where Larry served as president.
ln high school, Larry ran track at Main East and Main South High School. ln his junior year at Main East, Larry smashed the United States interscholastic record for the 880-yard run, becoming the National record holder. He was recruited by over 50 colleges and universities and eventually chose the University of Tennessee- Knoxville. He also qualified to be a member of the AAU.
ln 2005, Larry and Karen became owners of a 1956 Thunderbird and enjoyed many driving trips and activities with their Baby Bud and The Classic Thunderbird Club of Chicagoland.
