Cameron Brown – 2016

University of Tennessee track and field weight man Cameron Brown is the initial recipient of the Coach Chuck Rohe Leadership Award. Brown excelled on the field, winning the 2015 and 2016 SEC indoor championship in the weight throw and placing 3rd in the 2016 NCAA Division I indoor meet with a career best of 23.54 meters (77-2.75 feet). The award, however, goes beyond achievements in competition and notes the outstanding leadership qualities he modeled for his teammates as captain of the 2016 track and field team and president of the Student-Athlete Committee. He also led by example in the classroom, achieving a 3.65 cumulative GPA while double majoring in Business Analytics & Marketing.

According to Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan: “Cameron Brown is a leader in the classroom as well as in the field. He is an academic and athletic All-American and he consistently works toward improvement in both areas. He is a humble, strong and impressive young person that I value on my team each and every day. I am proud of all he has accomplished and confident he will continue to lead our teams to the best they can be. He is a true Vol, a team captain and just an amazing young man!” Vol for Life Bob Barber adds that Cameron was one of two UT athletes that came out to support his grade school youth running program in 2015 and that the kids loved him. His willingness to give back to the community adds to his impressive resume as a true leader.
